Chronic Pain Relief - Our Greatest Needs Fulfilled
Health is Wealth,
Peace of Mind is
Happiness.
--Sivananda
Living a life free of chronic pain is possible and it can be brought about completely naturally. Without dependence on pain killers, drugs, and even surgery.
Do you want a quick fix?
If drugs were the answer, we would be the healthiest people on the planet.
Doctors are into disease, not into remission.
This is by no means meant to knock doctors. What they do is important and what we need is far beyond the medications and surgical interventions the medical and pharmaceutical establishments suggest and offer.
The feeling of well-being is all you have in life.
Living with pain at best diminishes that feeling of well-being and at worst wipes it out completely. The body literally breaks down.
Balance is precarious, even non-existent. The immune system no longer functions properly; all other systems in the body are affected as well. Depression can reign.
Who wants to live like that?
Perhaps you already recognize your current state in what I've described above. If so, please read on. The information on
this site could change your life.
Let's start with other common threads in our world, how they affect us, and how they relate to chronic pain and pain relief
In order for the body to be well, meaning without pain, the body's cells must be able to repair themselves. The cells need to rejuvenate, refresh, replenish, restore, and relax. You may be aware that the health care system in the US is based on a sickness model rather than a wellness model. What do I mean by that? Simple. As a fast-moving, dynamic society in which the assumption is that everything is fine, including our bodies, families, finances, until major illness strikes. Heart disease, diabetes, cancer, auto-immune conditions and the like. Chronic pain can and often is part and parcel of disease or even the beginning of one. Once that happens the tendency is to address the illness with medical technology, surgery and drugs. Overall this type of interventive medicine is invasive, superficial, and expensive. And is there truly pain relief? Most drugs have been designed for long-time consumption and any side effects they cause prompt our health professionals to prescribe yet another drug. A bit of a vicious cycle, and definitely a quick fix which depletes the body and keeps it dis-harmony. Sickness and pain continues....

Chronic pain requires a wellness model
that is preventive in nature and assists the body to come into balance. The body naturally seeks balance (homeostasis) at all times and can truly heal only when it is in balance or very close to it.
Wellness equals health. Health equals all that we have in this life. Without health nothing is possible. Literally. Think about it!
Why then is it that most of us understand that only after we are sick? And why are we lacking this vital education about how to be and stay healthy?
Whether it's intense throbbing from a migraine or constantly
aching joints
from
arthritis
,
back pain
, including low back pain,
neck pain
,
foot pain
,
shoulder pain
or any other pain, we all want the pain to go away -- and fast!
Sometimes pain is a temporary condition that will go away on its own (like after a minor injury or after surgery). But sometimes the pain is an indicator of something far more serious, and it won't get better until that is addressed.
It's important to understand the pain response as well as different types of pain before you decide what your next step for pain relief should be.
This site provides you the resources to understand the pain you are experiencing without pushing a drug or advocating any treatment in particular.
If you've searched for the facts and options to relieve your pain - or that of a loved one - on the Internet, like I have, you may already know that most of the information out there comes directly from drug companies. Hmm...
What do they want you to do when you experience chronic or acute pain?
You probably know the answer to that question and are looking for alternatives. And that's what this site is all about.
Your doctor and drugs can be important, of course. Just not as a permanent, long-term solution. You decide.
Okay, here we go. Let's start by reviewing a few key things:
- The pain response
- Acute vs. chronic pain
- Chronic pain causes
- Traditional treatments
Pain, whether acute or chronic can slow healing and affect your entire life.
Any number of conditions and diseases can lead to constant chronic pain that is severe. Physical activity may be difficult, work may be impossible.
Sleep
may be interrupted or impossible. You may be sleep deprived even more than the average American. That becomes a BIG issue in terms of fatigue and irritability, and most notably lowered immune response as the body can only repair itself during sleep. That's a whole other topic in itself, of course. Many people in pain, especially in chronic pain, tend to be depressed and experience difficulty in their relationships. Chronic pain can also lead to disability. Often injuries can bring on pain that can become chronic, such as in whiplash, sports injuries, broken bones. Or diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes are accompanied by constant pain. As holistic beings all pain has a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimension to it. When addressing one dimension we are also addressing the others. There is no other way. We have, however, been told only about the physical dimension in general and seek to manipulate it with substances and interventions, getting more and more out of touch with nature. Re-incorporating nature without dramatically changing our lifestyles is a better, gentler, more effective way. Find out how here. The pain response originates in the central nervous system (CNS). The brain receives pain signals from the body and then sends back signals to protect the body and it releases endorphins, the body's natural painkillers. Endorphins reduce the pain. Acute pain often results from an injury or a major health condition. It is often sudden or sharp. The pain goes away when its cause is treated. In the case of chronic pain the pain lasts months or even years. In fact, acute pain that remains unaddressed can become chronic pain. Its causes vary. Chronic pain can also exist without a clear cause. Chronic pain signals remain active in the nervous system for weeks, months, or years. Tense muscles, limited mobility, lack of energy, changes in appetite, depression, anxiety, and anger are among the symptoms. Headaches and migraines, lower back pain, neurogenic pain (results from damaged nerves), arthritis pain, and cancer pain are common. In many cases the actual cause of the pain is unknown. That said, it makes even less sense to relieve this pain with drugs, which have to be taken over a long period of time, only mask the symptoms, have other effects - generally known as 'side effects' - on the body, and keep the body out of balance. Pain generally indicates that something is wrong. It is an uncomfortable and unpleasant bodily sensation that is a warning sign. These sensations show up as sharp pain, burning pain, discomfort (mild or acute), dull pain, etc. And pain appears either suddenly or slowly, occasional or constant. The following common pain drugs treat pain symptomatically: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs),such as Motrin or Aleve; Acetaminophen (such as Tylenol); narcotics (such as morphine or codeine); localized anesthetics and nerve blocks (a shot of a pain killer medicine into the area of the pain). Smoking, drinking alcohol, stress, poor diet, and lack of regular exercise not only contribute to pain, but also interfere with getting rid of it. And that is definitely another good reason to take a deeper look at lifestyle and at creating an environment that helps the body to stay in balance. Adjunct therapies such as acupuncture, physical therapy, behavior modification, relaxation techniques, and even surgery depend on it. For many years I was one of the people who answered the question "Is chronic pain keeping you from living a full life?" with a resounding yes. Until I learned what I'm about to share with you on this site.

One more thing before we move right into the content: suffering from chronic pain over years means that the body has to come back into balance so it can begin to heal itself. That is often a gradual process and seldom a quick fix.
And it's worth it.

A word about pain relief...
Where are you out of
balance
? Find out. As the body gets what it needs to re-balance itself and starts to heal, some people experience what is known as a healing crisis. It is a completely natural occurrence. Monitor it and stick with it. Healing Crisis Defined When the body begins to get rid of toxins and gunk that has been sitting in its cells for years sometimes, there may be a period when symptoms actually grow worse. A good example of that is caffeine withdrawal, which often causes big headaches. The same is true for sugar withdrawal. The best thing to do if that happens is to assist the body in getting rid of the gunk in your cells by drinking plenty of
good water
, getting adequate rest, and riding it out for up to 10 days. Within those 10 days the body begins to find its balance.
Note that residues of drugs that you have taken even many years ago take some time to eliminate. The body stores these in its fat cells, and fat cells are resilient. Their function is to supply the body with energy when needed, and to have appropriate reserves.
